The KI4LAO UHF repeater is located near I664 and Jefferson ave in Newport News VA and is currently active weekday evenings and most of the weekends.The goal of the 444.775+ repeater is to get more folks involved with amateur radio and to provide expanded communications in the event of an emergency.Right now the repeater utilizes a 23 ft tower with a vertical dipole which limits its range but there are plans to have a higher tower by spring.Mobile units should be able to hit the repeater from about 3 miles out but higher fixed stations should be able to reach it at much greater distances.So give it a try!
